August 2023: St Leger Homes of Doncaster have signed a new management contract with City of Doncaster Council to continue managing local council homes until March 2029.
The signing of the new management agreement comes after a review carried out by the Council which showed it to be a low cost, medium-to-high performing organisation when compared to other housing providers and ALMOs.
2 August 2023: FOUR in five council landlords are grappling with significant rises in rent arrears as tenants struggle to cope with the cost of living, a survey published today reveals.
The total number of households in council-owned housing who have slipped into arrears has risen four per cent in the last year, suggests data gathered from 11 councils and 17 council-owned housing management organisations.

21 July 2023: The Social Housing (Regulation) Bill passed into law at midnight after receiving royal assent yesterday. Its development has been strongly supported by the NFA and its members, and today we welcome a new era of oversight for the whole sector, just over a decade after the Audit Commission – which monitored the performance of local authority housing managers – was stood down by the coalition government.
The CIH and the NHF have today published an action plan to implement the recommendations made by the independent Better Social Housing Review (BSHR).
NFA member Stockport Homes has been praised as ‘truly an example of an excellent social service’ during a Westminster Hall debate on the future of social housing. Stockport MP Navendu Mishra told parliamentary colleagues taking part in the debate on 19 April 2023 that SHG was ‘so much more than a social housing provider’.

Janet Storar MBE, former Chair of Nottingham City Homes and social housing champion, has died after a short illness. Janet was NCH’s first Tenant Board Chair from 2006 to 2016 and an integral part of the story of NCH. More recently she had served on the East Midlands Regional Board and was a member of the Housing Ombudsman’s new Resident Panel.
