NFA photography competition 2022

#pullingtogether

Housing DigitalWe were delighted to welcome Housing Digital as media partners for the 2022 NFA Photography Competition. In the ALMO community, getting through the pandemic has been all about #pullingtogether – residents rallying round to help each other, frontline housing workers going above and beyond, the unfailing support of backroom staff, and collaboration with a host of professionals and volunteers across social and health care.

So for this year’s competition, we looked for images that captured the lockdown spirit that sustained us all. Entry was open to all residents and their ALMOs. Our shortlisted entries and the stories they tell were featured by our media partner Housing Digital.

The winner captured the lockdown story of three generations.

Stockport Homes customer Nikki Morgan took a photography course organised by her landlord, and later took a picture of her mother and grandmother during the lockdown Christmas of 2020, a moving image that radiates happiness despite the difficulties they were grappling with.

“It’s a wonderful picture that also celebrates the ‘more than housing’ work that we and our fellow NFA members try to deliver for our customers,” said Stockport Homes CEO Helen McHale. “We’re very proud of Nikki’s acheivement.”

“This picture means so much to me,” says Nikki. “It’s a simple family moment at Christmas, but the way my Nan is looking at my mum and the pure love and joy she is radiating is so moving.

“She’s 98, and we’re thrilled she’s still with us, and that we’ve been able to keep her happy and safe. And the support we’ve had from our landlord in every aspect of life, community and home has played a big part in that.”
