The funding pot used by local authorities to deliver housing services and building safety is likely to plunge into the red in the next two to three years, concludes a new report from housing consultants Savills published today.

Two NFA members are on the shortlist announced this week by the judges of the Northern Housing Awards. Blackpool Coastal Housing and Stockport Homes Group have both been selected as finalists in the Landlord of the Year category.
All ALMOs who bid for a share of Wave 2 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, either with their parent council or as part of a regional consortium, were successful. Tributes have been paid to Angela Davies, Chair of the Board at Wolverhampton Homes, who died suddenly just after Christmas.
The Better Social Housing panel, convened by the housing association sector and the Chartered Institute of Housing in summer 2022, has reported on its findings from a six-month consultation with residents and social housing providers. “While our members are not part of the housing association sector, we very much support this timely focus on exactly what social landlords should be doing for their tenants – and, most importantly, how they should be doing it,” said NFA Policy Director Chloe Fletcher today.

The provisions of the Fire Safety Act are now being rolled out. By next spring, councils and ALMOs must begin to develop a safety case for every residential block over 18m they manage. Northampton Partnership Homes has changed its name to Northamptonshire Partnership Homes to reflect its wider role supporting a new unitary council. West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) replaces both Northampton’s town council and part of the former county council, and the Northampton-based ALMO will now help deliver housing responsibilities and aims across the new local authority area.
