UK’s first anti-social behaviour awareness week

#ASBAwarenessWeek

NFA members this week join housing providers, councils, police forces, fire services and community groups across the country celebrating their efforts to keep communities safe.
The UK’s first anti-social behaviour awareness week has been organised by RESOLVE UK.

Today’s launch event is followed by the campaign’s partnership day tomorrow, Tuesday 20 July, a chance to show how many agencies work together to solve ASB problems rather than pass them on.

The work of two NFA members, their partners and their residents – Colchester Borough Homes and Derby Homes – has been shortlisted for the awareness week’s awards, and all our members will be showcasing their initiatives.

Among NFA members’ events are a week-long meet the ASB team open house at Stockport Homes, Tower Hamlets Homes highlighting its partnership work with local police officers; a rolling showcase of Solihull Community Homes multi-agency initiatives; and reminders to Nottingham City Homes customers of its dedicated ASB team and online hub that makes reporting of ASB quick and easy.

Find out more about the week’s activities at the RESOLVE UK website.

Get involved in ASB Awareness Week!

The UK’s first-ever ASB Awareness Week is now confirmed for 19-25 July 2021!

ASB is on the rise. Resolve members and agencies across the UK have reported a huge rise in ASB cases during the various national lockdowns. The situation is expected to get worse as society starts to open up.

Addressing this challenge is a national priority. ASB is not low-level crime, it devastates the lives of victims and communities. People deserve to feel safe where they live.

How can I get involved?

There are loads of ways you can highlight the great work you are doing to keep communities safe. Download our Media Pack where you’ll find all the resources you’ll need including logos, materials for social media, posters, t-shirts and other campaign materials.

We’ve got loads of activities planned throughout the week:

Monday, July 19: Join our ASB Awareness Week Launch event between 10 am – 11.30 am where you’ll hear from The Victims Commissioner for England and Wales and key figures from national and local government and the police to discuss how to deal with the rising challenge of ASB.

Wednesday, July 21: Sign up for the Resolve 25 Conference with an incredible lineup of speakers to celebrate 25 years of Resolve. Here’s an overview of the workshops taking place at Resolve 25:

  • It’s not low level – What can we do differently?
  • Domestic Abuse – There is no discrimination, covering:
-Men’s experiences of domestic abuse and why they’ve been ignored historically – includes quotes from my work
-Impact of these experiences on health and wellbein
-Post-separation and how abuse can continue – e.g. legal and administrative aggression through manipulation of services
-Barriers to help-seeking and societal attitudes
  • Alcohol – A lived experience perspective
  • Restorative Justice – Can this be used more widely?
  • ASB and Resilience, covering:
    • The past year or so has really shone a light on ASB, and with more people staying at home, the number of ASB reports have rocketed. Housing and ASB officers have done a fantastic job at trying to resolve cases, but there have been many challenges in investigating cases due to working in a restricted way, and with some of the tools unavailable.
    • This workshop will provide a chance to reflect on our activities over the past year, and focus on what we have learnt to prepare us for the future. I’ll be speaking about ways to build resilience in the context of being a housing professional – and to never waste a crisis!
  • Housing and Mental Health
  • Hate Crime – Expressive act or deep-seated prejudice?
  • CPNs and Delegated Power
