Tenant satisfaction consultation launched

Consultation begins today with stakeholders across the social housing sector on tenant satisfaction measures (TSMs), as part of the Regulator of Social Housing’s work to implement changes to consumer regulation for all social housing residents.

The proposed measures are based on the recommendations set out in the Government’s

‘Charter for Social Housing Residents: Social Housing White Paper’, published in November 2020.

The Regulator is seeking views from landlords, tenants and anyone with an interest in social housing on how a set of performance measures can best illustrate housing management performance and the quality of the services they offer. The aim is to help tenants hold their landlord to account and help RSH in its future consumer regulation role.

The NFA has been among the many sector partners who have contributed to the Regulator’s preparatory work for the consultation.

“We very much welcome the launch of this consultation,” said NFA MD Eamon McGoldrick. “The NFA is keen to see a return to consistent independent monitoring of performance lost in our sector almost a decade ago.

“Our members, who already incorporate resident’s views into their decision-making through the ALMO model, are looking forward to helping build a framework that accurately shows all social housing residents how well their homes and communities are being managed.”

The TSMs will apply to all social housing landlords, including local authorities, housing associations and other registered social housing providers.

Views can be submitted online by accessing the consultation survey directly, and the Regulator has today published detailed information about its scope.

The NFA’s newly formed Tenant Advisory Panel will contribute to the NFA’s formal submission to the consultation. In an NFA Viewpoint piece published today, panel member Lorraine Gill explains why she believes tenant voices are vital for good social housing management.
