Angela had been a Board member since 2014, becoming Chair in September 2019, and was well-known and respected throughout the company and by customers, for her kindness, dedication and true commitment to enhancing the lives of people in Wolverhampton. She was a fierce advocate for tenants, always considering the impact of the Board’s decisions on customers and encouraging everyone across the business to do the same.

Unwavering in her commitment to unlocking people’s potential, Angela’s influence can be seen in many of Wolverhampton Homes’ key projects and initiatives, including its early talent programmes to support the young people of Wolverhampton into meaningful careers, and a recently launched Corporate Social Responsibility strategy which puts community investment and partnership working front and centre. 

She also helped set up the Big Venture centre, developed by the community with support from City of Wolverhampton Council near her home in The Scotlands, and she was still an active volunteer there.

Shaun Aldis, Chief Executive of Wolverhampton Homes, said:

“Angela’s death was a terrible shock and will be a huge loss for the community. Serving on our Board for more than nine years, and as a volunteer for many years prior, she was an integral part of the company and played a key role in many of the decisions which have shaped Wolverhampton Homes.

“Angela was dedicated to equality and inclusion and passionate about delivering positive change. She was very open and interested in hearing people’s stories, with a gift for making people feel heard. But she was also decisive and resolute – entirely focused on doing the right thing for customers and keeping them at the heart of our decision-making. This combination made her invaluable as a Board member, volunteer, colleague and friend.

“Angela’s death is a huge loss for everyone who knew and worked with her, and for people across the city whose lives have been impacted by the work that she did.”

Council Leader Ian Brookfield also paid tribute to Angela’s work:

“She was a wonderful person and her contribution to housing services in Wolverhampton is greatly valued. Over the years she dedicated her time, knowledge and experience to improve the delivery of services to tenants – and was a huge supporter of the city and its people,” said Cllr Brookfield. 

NFA Managing Director Eamon McGoldrick added:

“We are very sad to hear of Angela’s death. As Chair of Wolverhampton Homes and a founding member of the NFA Tenant Advisory Panel, she was a longstanding, engaged and supportive member of the ALMO family and she will be greatly missed.

“We remember Angela as a kind and friendly person who was always passionate about tenant engagement and helped drive that agenda forward, not only in her own community at Wolverhampton Homes but also at the national level through her involvement in the NFA.

“She was a keen participant in discussions at events with other NFA board members from across the country, and was a key figure in the parliamentary event we held at Westminster in 2015 to help engage MPs and Ministers in the issues that she cared about. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends and all her colleagues at Wolverhampton Homes and in the wider ALMO sector.”

 Angela Davies’ funeral will be held at Bushbury Crematorium, Underhill Lane, Wolverhampton WV10 7JG on Wednesday 15 February 2023 at 10.30am.
