Over the next few years, housing managers and their councils must make sure they comply with these and other upcoming changes in regulation.

The aim of this report, its two checklists and the plain English A summary for residents is to inform conversations between councils and their housing managers – whether internal or ALMO-based; and to help social housing residents understand how new post-Grenfell legislation and regulation helps them hold their landlords to account.

A policy brief, Delivering new social housing regulation for ALMO-council residents, offers an overview for policymakers and stakeholders across the wider sector. 

The toolkits developed by the authors support the practical use of the report’s findings. The first is for councils, their housing departments and/or ALMOs, and its checklist of 34 questions is designed to help them track compliance in nine key areas including resident engagement, performance monitoring, audit & risk management, and health & safety.

The second toolkit is for residents who want to find out exactly what they are entitled to expect from their landlord and the improved regulatory system, and how to challenge poor service or gaps in delivery to their homes and communities.
