Welcome for MHCLG announcements
NFA Managing Director Eamon McGoldrick has welcomed today’s announcements from the Housing Minister, Steve Reed, on a raft of measures that will have far-reaching impact on social housing residents’ quality of life and NFA members’ ability to deliver more and better social housing.
“Housing management is always complex, and is most effective when bedded in long-sighted policy decisions and financial certainty,” said Eamon.
“Decisions on rent convergence, the Decent Homes Standard, minimum energy efficiency standards, new-build finance, and improved consultation between Government and landlords – all of these are hugely constructive steps forward.
“They are the outcome of many conversations and consultations with Government across the last year or so, and we welcome the clarity they bring to our members’ business plans and preparation for long-expected regulatory changes.
“We look forward to further positive engagement with MHCLG. We particularly welcome MHCLG’s proposed compact on consultation to establish a solid foundation for conversations between social landlords and Government; and the creation of a Task Force that will support delivery of new homes and help landlords raise and sustain the quality of residents’ current homes.”
