The NFA has responded to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities’ consultation and call for evidence into Electrical Safety in social housing. The consultation aims to improve safety for residents in social rented homes and bring greater parity between the social and private rented sectors with regards safety. 

The NFA has supported DLUHC’s proposals to introduce mandatory inspection and testing of electrical installations at least every five years into the social rented sector. The NFA has agreed that there should be a legal requirement for electrical safety checks to improve landlord access to properties. We have called for a phased implementation process over four years. 

In blocks of flats where a fire in one home can affect others living in the block, NFA members would like to see more requirements made on leaseholders to maintain the same level of safety as rented homes will.
