Housing sector letter to Prime Minster and Rt Hon Michael Gove MP in reference to ‘British Homes for British Workers’ proposal.

Representatives from the housing sector have written a joint letter to the Prime Minister and the Housing Secretary Michael Gove expressing their concerns about the proposal reported in the media last week around ‘British homes for British workers’.

The joint letter says the heart of the issue comes down to the “urgent need” for more social housing which is designed to support those with the greatest needs.

The sector suggests that new requirements to access social housing around citizenship will end up increasing homelessness levels and that the Government should instead invest in social rented housing.

The Secretary of State responded on 26 February 2024.
