NFA Briefing for Westminster Hall debate on the Affordable Homes Programme

The NFA has briefed MPs prior to their Westminster Hall debate on the Affordable Homes Programme.

Using research from Savills, we set out the challenges that local authorities are facing in the development of new homes and regeneration of existing homes. There needs to be a fivefold increase in the funding for social rented homes in the Affordable Housing Programme to meet housing demand.

The NFA is calling for the following changes to be made to the Affordable Homes Programme:

1. The amount of funding available through the programme should be increased significantly to better reflect the level of need for new social and affordable homes.

2. The proportion of funding allocated to homes for social rent, rather than affordable home ownership, should be increased to reflect immediate housing needs.

3. The Affordable Homes Programme should include funding to demolish and rebuild existing social homes as well as net additions on regeneration sites to remove a significant barrier to bringing schemes forward to replace housing stock no longer fit for purpose.
