The shape of the sector
Key findings from 2018 include:
- At 31st December 2018, the NFA membership consisted of 31 ALMOs managing 417,913 homes:
• 414,069 Council/ ALMO owned stock
• 1,969 homes managed on behalf of another social landlord or housing association
• 1,875 homes managed in the private rented sector. - 30% of ALMO Board members are Tenant Board members, with 36% Independent and 29% Council nominees.
- (73%). Half of ALMOs provide management or maintenance services for other non-domestic properties.
Half of ALMOs provide services in the private rented sector, while half of ALMOs deliver care and support services. - The sector employs a total of 352 apprentices as part of their wider programmes to support employability and life chances.
- 16 ALMOs are directly involved in the provision of homelessness services, including delegation of statutory duties, provision of emergency beds and temporary accommodation, and running ‘Housing First’ initiatives.
