The NFA and ARCH have put forward a joint submission to the Chancellor’s planned three-year spending review, scheduled to be announced in Parliament with the autumn budget on 27 October 2021.

It asks the Chancellor to draw on social housing providers’ proven expertise in delivering programmes that reduce inequality, and to include the sector fully in delivery of the levelling up agenda. It also asks for more financial certainty for social landlords, particularly in setting rents, so that they can confidently plan work to bring properties to 2050 zero-carbon standards.

Most importantly, the submission argues that the sector should be supported to deliver one third of the government’s planned annual target of 300,000 new homes. Those homes should be for social rent to meet the needs of the growing number of people struggling to find a home they can afford.
